Compelling! Liked Alex the protagonist - interesting and strong, though also vulnerable, female character. Small town life was well drawn, and the bushfires were relatable, living in Australia. Murder mystery helped keep me turning the pages!

Nicely tense throughout, drawing you in from the first page. I also enjoyed how Alex's personal relationships were portrayed, so much depth without being overly explained. The setting was also very relatable.

-the context in which it was written -wildfires in USA was recent news and the associated plot was very intriguing
The terrible police corruption dating back for many years was so interesting but disturbing .
