Hattie McDaniel and Clark Gable were friends years before they worked together on Gone with the Wind and remained friends until her passing. What did you think of this friendship?

I think it was a true friendship of two people who respected each other and shared the love of acting.

To be honest, I wasn't aware it existed prior to reading this book. However, I am excited to learn about the relationship and have garnered additional respect for both actors.

I have to say that I feel that if it really was as close a friendship as the novel would line us to believe, I’m surprised Gable did not do more to help her- professionally or financially.

Is it just me or is it difficult enough to find male friends let alone platonic married male friends that genuinely support your endeavors while owning their design in the social space? Go Hattie!

It is believable for me that they had a very close friendship. It is also at a time that whites and blacks were not supposed to have this kind of friendship so I am sure it was hard for him to watch some of the things she had to endure.
